E3 2018 Hype: The Last Of Us Part II…

If there’s two words I can use to describe the most recent trailer for The Last of Us Part II, it’s holy shit. There is so much to unpack in this glorious new titbit from Naughty Dog, who in my opinion have won E3. I know it’s not a competition, but they’ve won nonetheless.

Firstly, Ellie’s got a girlfriend! Or at least a love interest who goes by the name Dina. I was personally so overcome with emotion during that kiss! The moment was so wonderful and it was really nice to see Ellie have a happy moment in contrast with the brutality of the rest of the trailer.

Look at that smile!

The graphics were amazing too. Facial capture wasn’t used in the first game so it’s really cool seeing an even more realistic looking set of characters in the sequel. There’s definitely a lot of attention to detail there.

I was stunned at how beautifully rendered the environments looked during the gameplay segment of the trailer as well. Seeing as how the Uncharted series is made by the same studio and is known for its big set pieces and lush environments, it’s not surprising that The Last of Us Part II would have the same amount of quality.

The gameplay shown was also incredibly fluid and it’s easy to tell that they’ve made tons of improvements since the first game. It seems that the environment really acts as your ally, Ellie was shown hiding under a car, camouflaging in tall grass and using an enemy as a human shield in parts of the trailer.

I’m incredibly proud of Naughty Dog for making Ellie such a well rounded, three dimensional character. Seeing a strong, capable, gay woman be the main playable character in a Triple-A title is beyond amazing and humbling. I can not wait to get my hands on this game when it finally does come out and see more of her story unfold.

Thanks so much for reading!
