I’ll be the first one to admit that me and the end screen of basically any given video game are on pretty friendly terms at this point. I know I’m not alone in this and many of you also suffer from a bad case of perpetual bad-gamer-itis as well.
And while reaching that dreaded death screen can feel like the worst burden to bare, it is always nice to see a familiar face when you get there. Even if they aren’t the friendliest to you in your time of need.
So I put together a list of games that loved to mock us a little bit every time we failed, enjoy!
1. Batman: Arkham Asylum (PS4/Xbox One)
Who can forget that face!
Yes, it’s none other than everyone’s favourite Batman villain and Arkham Asylum’s most honoured inmate, The Joker. He’ll be ready to mock you with an evil laugh and a snide comment to match.
But if The Joker isn’t your cup of tea don’t fret, there are plenty of other villains that will take their turn in giving you a hard time too!
Batman: Arkham Asylum was nice enough to gift us with end screen taunts from other characters such as Scarecrow and Harley Quinn, just to name a couple. And if you haven’t already guessed from the title of this blog I’m a big Harley Quinn fan, so I was somewhat honoured to be ridiculed by her.
2. Jak And Daxter (PS2)
Now onto a little more of an irritating one, it’s everyone’s favourite Otsel Daxter!
I have to say, I was a little upset that Jak didn’t speak until later in the series, I could of been a button press away from shutting my little side kick up!
Daxter does still have his redeeming qualities though, despite his rather annoying quips. He’s loyal, trustworthy and yes, even somewhat funny at times.
Not to mention Daxter was created by my favourite game studio Naughty Dog! So he’s definitely a winning character in my book.
3. Deadpool (PS4/Xbox One)
Next up, it’s our friendly neighbourhood anti-hero Deadpool!
If you need someone to make you laugh in times of post-death sadness, look no further! Deadpool will have a funny one liner and obscene gesture ready to go.
And whilst his insults can feel a little grating at times, I will give him a slight pass considering that this version of Deadpool is voiced by the lovely Nolan North (AKA Nathan Drake, Desmond Miles, the list is literally endless).
He certainly did a great job of bringing the character to life…. and death.
4. Crash Bandicoot (PS2/PS4/Nintendo Switch)
If missing that platform and falling to your death for the two hundredth time wasn’t already bad enough, don’t worry Aku Aku is here to rub it in!
While that menacing laugh can feel like salt has been added to the wound at times, we can at least be grateful he’s not hurling insults at us in the process. Not to mention there are times where he’s useful in-game when extra lives are needed.
Buuut I’m pretty sure that evil voice will be forever indented in my brain… curse that mask!
So there you have it, four games that weren’t afraid to laugh at us when we needed it the least!
If there’s any other games you lovely readers can think of that I may have missed, please feel free to add them in the comments 🙂
And as always, thanks so much for reading!
